As some of you already know, our casting director
extraordinaire, John McKinney, has for the last several years been leading a
secret life as a playwright. (Which may
explain his facility with directing actors and working with copywriters.) Well, as of last week, John’s secret is out.
Because his latest full-length play, The
Chekhov Dreams, has just been nominated for best original full-length
script by the New York Innovative Theater Awards, one of the most prestigious
awards in Off-Off Broadway theater.
The Chekhov Dreams,
was nominated for two awards, in fact, the second being for best actress in a
leading role (who John was instrumental in discovering and casting – naturally).
But the accolades don’t stop there! The play also contains a monologue which will
be published later this year by Smith & Kraus in their upcoming anthology, Best Monologues of 2013, Men. This marks John’s second published work this
year alone along with his short play, Unintelligent
Life, which will be appear in the upcoming volume, Best 10 Minute Plays, 2013.
We feel John’s skill as a playwright can only expand his
ability to network with the New York talent pool to help find the most talented
actors for our clients. And you can bet
we’ll be rooting for him at the awards ceremony on September 30th. But that won’t stop us from breaking open the
champagne now!
